Venus Williams joined sister Serena in making an early exit from the French Open as she crashed out to third seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round.

Roland Garros was still abuzz with Virginie Razzano's stunning victory over the title favourite, handing Serena her first ever defeat in the opening round of a grand slam.

Venus' 6-2, 6-3 loss was certainly not in the same category, indeed it would have been a shock had she won given her health problems, lack of match action and the fact the match was being played on clay.
Straight sets win: Agnieszka Radwanska completed a memorable win against Venus Williams

Even at Venus' best, Radwanska would have been a big obstacle. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a terrific 2012 so far, winning titles in Dubai, Miami and Brussels, and is rightly considered a real contender here.

Venus produced far too many errors to trouble a player of Radwanska's consistency and speed around the court, and, although she found some form towards the end of the match, her revival was short-lived.

Venus was playing her first grand slam since pulling out of the US Open last summer following a diagnosis of the auto-immune condition Sjogren's Syndrome.

She made no attempt to hide the fact she is still struggling physically, but felt she had achieved her objectives here, with her first-round victory almost certainly guaranteeing her qualification for the Olympics in London.
Down and out: Venus Williams leaves the court following her defeat

Reflecting on the match, the 31-year-old American said: 'I felt like I played. That pretty much sums it up. This tournament for me was all about getting to the Olympics. If that happens for me, I think the chances are good, then I come out a victor.

'She played really well. It's important to put the ball in the court. She chased down a lot of shots. That's what you have to do on this surface. Unfortunately I wasn't at my best today.'

Williams has three Olympic gold medals, one in singles and two in doubles, and is set to defend the women's doubles title she won four years ago with Serena in Beijing.

She said: 'The ultimate dream for me would be to be able to play both. I have to see and see what I'm selected for. Maybe (women's) doubles and mixed (doubles) is better for me. Any medal in any event, even if it was the javelin, that's a medal.'

The American remains upbeat despite her health problems, saying: 'I'm still playing professional sport, so I have to be very positive.

'And I'm going to have ups and downs. I haven't gotten to the "Why me?" stage yet. I hope I never get there. I'm not allowed to feel sorry for myself.'

As the creator of Facebook he has been hailed an internet genius but Mark Zuckerberg was apparently flummoxed on his honeymoon in Italy by a rather more basic piece of technology – a cash machine.

The 28-year-old multi-billionaire was unable to access his vast personal fortune when he tried to withdraw money from a cash point on the island of Capri.

The young internet tycoon and his new wife, Priscilla Chan, went by boat from the picturesque Amalfi Coast to the island in the Bay of Naples earlier this week.

From the island's tiny port they took an open-topped taxi to have lunch at Da Giorgio, a local restaurant.

They then found a nearby ATM machine, owned by Banca della Campania, in a whitewashed alcove of Capri's main village, a haunt of Hollywood celebrities and the super-rich.

A video shot by a passer-by showed Mr Zuckerberg looking at the cash machine quizzically and asking advice from a fellow tourist, before abandoning the attempt to withdraw money and walking away.
Cash machines in Italy are frequently out of service but the Naples-based bank insisted that it was functioning normally.

As they did on at least one occasion in Rome, the couple shared a main course at the restaurant on Capri – mindful, perhaps, that Facebook's plunging share value has put a dent in Mr Zuckerberg's $20 billion dollar fortune.

Shares in the company, which made its market debut on the NASDAQ stock exchange on May 18, fell 10 per cent to an all-time low of $28.65 on Tuesday.

The honeymoon was supposed to be a secret until the couple's cover was blown by a Polish tourist who snapped them admiring the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican and posted the photographs on Twitter.

Charles Taylor afungwa miaka 50 jela

Judges are hearing oral sentencing pleas in Charles Taylor's war crimes case today, with the former Liberian president expected to speak on his own behalf.
Former Liberian President Charles Taylor

Judges at an international war crimes court have sentenced Liberia’s former President, Charles Taylor to 50 years in prison.

He was said to be responsible for “some of the most heinous and brutal crimes recorded in human history” and was sentenced for war crimes during the long-running civil war in Sierra Leone.

Taylor was convicted last month on 11 charges of aiding and abetting the rebels who went on a savage rampage during the decade-long war that ended in 2002 with more than 50,000 dead.

He was found guilty of offences including murder, rape, sexual slavery, recruiting child soldiers, enforced amputations and pillage.

Delivering the sentence on Wednesday, Judge Richard Lussick said Taylor’s crimes were of the “utmost gravity in terms of scale and brutality”.

“The lives of many more innocent civilians in Sierra Leone were lost or destroyed as a direct result of his actions,” Lussick said.

The 64-year-old warlord-turned-president is the first former head of state convicted by an international war crimes court since World War II.

He will serve his sentence in a British jail. His lawyers, however, are expected to appeal his convictions and that will likely keep him in a jail in The Hague, Netherlands, for months.

Prosecutors say he funneled arms, ammunition and other supplies in return for “blood diamonds” mined using slave labor.

They had asked judges at the Special Court for Sierra Leone to impose an 80-year sentence. However, Taylor’s lawyers urged the judges to hand down a sentence that offered him some hope of release before he dies.

Lussick said an 80-year sentence would have been excessive as Taylor was convicted of aiding and abetting crimes and not direct involvement.

At a sentencing hearing earlier this month, Taylor had asked the court to deliver its sentence in a spirit of “reconciliation, not retribution”. He offered no admission of wrongdoing or words of remorse.

“I express my sadness and sympathy for crimes suffered by individuals and families in Sierra Leone,”  he told the panel of judges.

“What I did to bring peace to Sierra Leone was done with honour. I was convinced that unless there was peace in Sierra Leone, Liberia would not be able to move forward. I pushed the peace process hard, contrary to how I have been portrayed in this court.”

Taylor showed no emotion as Lussick handed down what will effectively be a life sentence.

Balotelli- Nitaua mtu

Mario Balotelli

And the Manchester City star says he would kill anyone who throws bananas at him in Poland and Ukraine.

A BBC documentary highlighted the Euro hosts’ problems with racism and UEFA insist referees could abandon games if there is any trouble.

Italy striker Balo, 21, said: “If someone throws a banana at me in the street, I will go to prison because I will kill him.

“Racism is unacceptable to me, I cannot bear it. I hope there will not be a problem at the Euros because if it does happen I would straight away leave the pitch and go home.

“We are in 2012, it can’t happen.”

Centre of attention: Balotelli has been given the No 9 shirt ahead of this summer's tournament

Balotelli was subjected to racist abuse from fans during City’s Europa League tie with Porto in February.

But he had it much worse during his days at Inter Milan back in 2009 when he had bananas thrown at him during a match.

Balotelli told France Football: “These two or three lads were lucky the police came straight away because, I swear, I would have given them a proper kicking. I would have destroyed them.

“I hope that doesn’t happen again.”

Another incident in Italy occurred when Balotelli was on the receiving end of abuse from Juventus fans.

He said: “I remember it well because I scored a goal.

“Occasionally, you’re so good that people can’t think of any other way to make you angry. They think the only way to play badly is to provoke you.

“I had to pretend that I hadn’t seen anything because I wanted to play.

“I was young. It was up to me to tell the referee. But if I had told the referee to stop the match I wouldn’t have scored.”

Penati bado inamuumiza Messi

Lionel Messi, Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao

Lionel Messi has admitted that he is still tormented by Barcelona's "unfair" elimination at the hands of Chelsea in the semifinals of the Champions League.

"I missed out winning La Liga and the Champions League, but I was more angry about the Champions League because it was unfair; because I missed a penalty," the Argentine told reporters on Tuesday.

The Blaugrana dominated possession and territory in both legs but the defending champions ultimately bowed out 3-2 on aggregate, with their talisman No.10 failing to score in either game and missing a crucial spot kick at Camp Nou.

Barca also lost its Spanish title to Real Madrid last season, but Messi has revealed that the loss to Chelsea continues to bother him.

"I'm very happy with the season I had. But we were angry about not getting the Champions League - we were close and we were very angry," Messi said.

"But we will fight for more titles next season and the national team will look to secure a place in World Cup."

Messi, who is currently preparing for his country's upcoming qualifier with Ecuador, is in no doubt that Barca will be in a position to reclaim their European crown even though Pep Guardiola has now been replaced at the helm by assistant coach Tito Vilanova.

"It's not easy to replace Pep after all that we have done, but I have known Tito since I was a kid and I know what we can expect from him," the forward reasoned.

"We have done everything together with Guardiola over these four years and hopefully things will continue in the same way."

Messi hit a record-breaking 73 goals last season but there are those that believe that Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo will win this year's Ballon d'Or if he shines at Euro 2012.

"I do not know, or think about it," the Rosario native insisted. "January is a long time away from now and we have many more important games to play, including the game against Ecuador."

"Then there are titles with Barcelona and with the national team, so no, I have not thought about it."

Waziri Nchimbi, Polisi wazijadili vurugu Zanzibar

Waziri wa Mambo ya Ndani Tanzania Dk.Emmanuel Nchimbi, akizungumza na Viongozi wa Jumuiya za Kiislamu na Wadau wa Sekta ya Utalii Zanzibar, kuhusiana na fujo zilizotokea Zanzibar, Kulia Mkuu wa Jeshi la Polisi Tanzania, IGP Said Mwema na (kushoto) Kamishna wa Polisi Zanzibar, Mussa Ali.

Waziri Dk.
