An unnamed commercial sex worker in Yenagoa metropolis, Bayelsa
State, has sold her one-day-old baby for N20,000.
While some people said
the prostitute was delivered of the baby on Sunday, others claimed she
gave birth last week.
The prostitute reportedly arranged for the buyer of the baby before delivery
According to reports, as soon as the baby was born – the buyer was
said to have come from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday to take
the baby.
The prostitute reportedly sold her baby to avoid inconveniences and distraction.
When contacted, spokesman for the Bayelsa Police Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, said police had traced the matter to Rivers State.
He said: “I am aware. We got a report that a commercial sex worker
sold her baby to a woman in Port Harcourt. The police are on their way
to effect the recovery of the baby and arrest the family that bought the
child.”
