Arsenal are putting the finishing touches on a club record £7million-per-season deal to keep Robin van Persie.
Manager Arsene Wenger, chief
executive Ivan Gazidis and Van Persie will meet on Wednesday for
highly-anticipated talks over a new deal.
And it is understood Van Persie, who
currently earns a basic wage of £70,000-per-week, will be offered a new
three-year deal worth around £130,000-per-week - eclipsing the pay
packages of Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas Van Persie will also be
offered £5million signing-on fee if he pledges his future to the club.
Wenger will sell the sporting
benefits of extending his Arsenal stay to Van Persie during talks on
Tuesday rather than discussing the financial structure of his pending
deal.
However, money is likely to become a key theme throughout negotiations over the coming days.
As Sportsmail
revealed last week, it will take an 'extraordinary' offer from an elite
European club to persuade Van Persie that his future rests away from
the Emirates Stadium.
But while Van Persie has shown a
willingness to stay in north London, he wants to see what options are
open to him before signing a new contract
Whether £130,000-per-week and a £5million deal is enough to persuade Van Persie to sign fresh terms remains to be seen.
While the contract would be the most lucrative in the club's history, Van Persie knows he could earn more elsewhere.
It is understood the Gunners have factored in Van Persie's previous
record of injuries and the fact he will be deep into the twilight of his
career when the new deal expires when putting the package together.
Arsenal had considered offering Van Persie a four-year deal but club
officials are not overly-enamoured by the idea of paying a 33-year-old
£130,000-per-week.
Sportsmail
revealed let week how Van Persie would reject interest from Juventus
after the Italian giants revealed their intention to sign the Holland
international.
However, the Serie A club still intend to make an official approach for Van Persie in the coming weeks.

Van Persie could earn as much as £220,000-per-week at Manchester City and the player's agent Kees Vos was a guest of executive Brian Marwood at a recent Etihad Stadium match.
'Yes,
I was a guest of Marwood at Manchester City, that is true,' Vos told
Goal.com. 'It was about three months ago. I meet a lot of people. Why do
I need to explain? I work for a company that has 450 clients and 350
international players.'
Manchester United are also understood to have discussed the idea of making their own swoop for the Gunners skipper.
However, sources close to the striker insist Van Persie would find it difficult to play for another Premier League side.
That
leaves Barcelona and Real Madrid as his other two suitors - and a
serious offer from either of the Spanish giants would turn Van Persie's
head.
Arsenal also hope the factor of securing Champions League next season will help their cause.
Van Persie has made no secret of the importance of finishing third in the league.
He told Arsenal Player: 'It was double important to finish third and also above Spurs. We knew what was at stake.
'It
is just a fantastic feeling again to be ahead of Spurs. We heard that
they won, but it doesn't really matter because we won our game.
'We are definitely in the Champions League again, and that was the main target from the match.
'We just had to qualify and everyone is very pleased, everyone is enjoying this moment.'
Van Persie praised the battling efforts of Arsene Wenger's squad during what has been a testing season.
'It
is incredible. We had to dig deep and come back on a couple of
occasions where we were having a hard time,' the Dutchman said.
At the start of the season, we had a very difficult period, but we bounced back very well from that.
