'Kiongozi Boko Haram amekufa'

Addressing a world press conference yesterday the joint coordinator of the National Briefing Centre and the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Mr. Mike Omeri, said government was reviewing the video and the statement issued by the sect.

The National Briefing Centre on Security comprises the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, the spokesperson of the State Security Service (SSS), Ms. Marilyn Ogar and her Police counterpart, Mr. Frank Mba, Omeri as well as representatives of the Federal Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Information.

Omeri said all options were being put into consideration by the Federal Government to secure freedom for the abducted girls alive, adding that the government was consulting military intelligence experts across the world on the issue.

But Ogar, while speaking with journalists after the briefing, said the federal government would not negotiate with terrorists.

“No sovereign government negotiates with terrorists and Nigeria will not in anyway negotiate with Boko Haram,” she said.

On the real identity of the leader of the sect, Ogar, a Deputy Director, said: “Boko Haram has become a franchise with which many people commit several crimes. Abu Kakar and Abubakar Shekau are all dead. Those bearing these names today are fake.”
