
She's poured her heart out on tracks since If You Had My Love in 1999 but Jennifer Lopez says when it came to making her latest album she had a whole new perspective.
The 44-year-old singer split from husband Marc Anthony in 2011 and when she started her tenth album last year, she had plenty to say about it.
She told Popcrush.com: 'My topic is love. It always has been. It’s my motivation. It’s what I think about. That’s who I am at the essence.
Jennifer split from Marc in 2011 and says their divorce has given her plenty to sing about'But what I thought about love for my first nine albums is very different from what I think about it now after everything I’ve been through.
'[I've] been working on [the album] since last February - for over a year now. I’d come off the tour, so I really was inspired to get back into the studio right away.
'My goal was to just be as honest as I could. You know, I’d gone through a lot in my life right at that point when I went on tour.
The star wanted to 'flip the
rap video' and be surrounded by near-naked men for the clip to her new
track I Luh Ya Papi'I'd been through a divorce. A lot of things had happened. I really felt like it was a turning point in my life.'
She added: 'What I realised is that I just always have to be me. If I’m approaching something creatively, I have to be who I am.
'I’m the same girl that I always was, while I’ve evolved and I’ve grown and I have more experience. And I have to put that into this album - and I think I really did.'
