'The most important thing was what the manager thinks about me and what his plan for me is. I decided to come to Arsenal because I have the trust and familiar environment here,' he said,

'I would have come here without a fee. The most important is that the manager trusts me, that's the crucial point. I've talked about this in the past, I didn't get the respect and trust - it was a bit difficult.

'I had a very good time in Madrid - I had friends there and good moments. You could see from their reaction they didn't understand the move. But you have to look ahead. I'm in the strongest league in the world and I have to continue developing.

They didn't have to say a lot about the club. I know how successful they have been, players like (Thierry) Henry, (Cesc) Fabrgeas. Many young players came here and got to become one of the best players in the world.'

'I couldn't really think a lot about Arsenal because I had to focus on Germany but I asked Per (Mertesacker) and Pod (Lukas Poldolski) about it. I was curious and I look forward to it.
