Clinic treats people with Internet addictions

People that cannot seem to put down their gadgets, such as smartphones and laptops, are finding more remedies to help treat their addiction to the Internet.

According to CNBC, the latest clinic offering treatment for the addiction will open next week in Bradford, Pennsylvania.

According to Yahoo, Dr. Kimberly Young, who is a psychologist, heads the new program at the Bradford Regional Medical Center. She said that she has been helping people who cannot control their online activity for almost 10 years.

According to Time, experts are still debating whether or not the lure of social media and online gaming constitutes addiction.

DSM 5, the latest version of psychiatry’s diagnostic manual, did not include Internet addiction as a disorder, but it did say that it deserved additional study for possible inclusion in the future.

Treatment for Internet addiction is generally not covered by insurance, and out-of-pocket expenses can range between $8,000-$14,000.
