A 17-year-old Form One student in Nairobi is facing murder charges after allegedly stabbing her 22-year-old boyfriend.
The student was yesterday arraigned before Justice Roseline
Korir and charged with killing her boyfriend at Kiamumbi Estate,
Kasarani, over what the prosecution said was a misunderstanding over a
phone call.
According to the police charge sheet, the student
allegedly committed the offence on August 22 after they quarreled over a
phone call that the girl had received a few days before the killing.
Although
the girl claimed that the phone call was from her mother, the boyfriend
did not believe her leading to the dispute that ended tragically.
“They had a domestic dispute over the call. She then grabbed a knife and stabbed him, killing him,” the court was informed.
A
neighbour later found the deceased lying in a pool of blood outside the
house. He died as he was being rushed to Kiambu District Hospital for
treatment.
The two lovebirds, according to police, had lived together for two weeks and neighbours thought they were a couple.
During
yesterday’s proceedings, a dispute arose over the exact age of the
accused after the prosecution claimed that she has consistently changed
her statements in the course of the investigations.
Although the girl
had informed the presiding Judge that she is 17, State Counsel Florence
Magoma told the court that she had indicated in her previous statements
that she is not a minor.
“In one of her statements, she had
indicated her age as 18-years, while another shows her age to be 19.
Now
she says she is 17. We need to determine her exact age,” the prosecutor
told the court.
