Song- Tulianza vibaya sasa tumewanyamazisha

Alex Song, who set up Van Persie's opening goal at the Emirates on Wednesday with a sublime piece of skill that utterly baffled two defenders, believes critics were too quick to write off Arsenal at the start of the season.

He said: "Some people were very hard on Arsenal. We started very badly but it is not easy when you have new players coming in.

"We lost two big players and it was not easy at first to play without Cesc and Nasri. We had to give others time and allow them to grow in confidence.

"Everyone can see that we are nothing like the team we were three months ago."

Song, who added to Wenger's woes with a three-match ban for stamping on Joey Barton in the opening league match at Newcastle, said:

"We're happy to have got through and prove the critics wrong.

"It was important for us to finish the job. Winning the group is important. Last season we dropped some points and we didn't want to make the same mistake.

"I was out for three games at the start of the season, which was difficult, but I tried to learn from the mistake I made. I just want to push myself to help the team.

" Keeper Wojciech Szczesny, another pivotal figure in Arsenal's revival, even believes they have the confidence to go all the way to the Champions League final this season.

He said: "If we can keep going and winning like we have been, we can win the competition. We believe we can do it.

"Robin has been fantastic. Everywhere the ball goes he seems to be on the end of it and keeps scoring great goals.

"I keep thinking surely he'll stop next week and the next week and the next week. But he keeps going!

He has made a massive difference to the club this season.
