Google CEO Larry Page.
GOOGLE CEO Larry Page has missed an annual shareholder meeting because he lost his voice.
Mr Page's absence was announced at the beginning of the meeting today by executive chairman Eric Schmidt.
Mr Schmidt told shareholders that Mr Page's voice problems would also prevent him from speaking next week at a Google conference about Android software for smartphones.
Mr Page would also miss a conference call with analysts next month when Google reviewed its financial results for the second quarter.
Mr Schmidt said Mr Page, 39, would continue as CEO while he recovered.
No further information about the nature of Page's voice difficulty was provided.
Mr Page, Google's co-founder, replaced Mr Schmidt as CEO last year.
