ALEX FERGUSON saw Manchester United lose their grip on the title and confessed: We’ve thrown it away.
United twice blew a two-goal lead to draw 4-4 with Everton — now rivals City can take their crown away.
United twice blew a two-goal lead to draw 4-4 with Everton — now rivals City can take their crown away.
Fergie said: “It was terrible defending, we’ve thrown it away, it’s as simple as that.”
City’s win at Wolves means they now have the title destiny in their own hands and Monday’s derby at the Etihad is huge.
If City, who have a six-goal advantage, beat United, win at Newcastle and then defeat QPR at the Etihad they will almost certainly be champions — barring a United goal spree.
Ferguson has labelled next Monday’s showdown as the biggest derby EVER.
Eleven days after losing at Wigan, United threw away a 3-1 and 4-2 lead yesterday.
He added: “We need to get a result at the Etihad, there is no question about that — we need to perform. There is no reason why we cannot do that.
“The game next Monday would always be a derby game of highest proportions and this won’t be any different.”
Asked if it would be his most important derby, Ferguson replied: “Yes, definitely. Game on. We have a real chance as we are going to the Etihad with a three-point lead.”
