1. Baadhi ya vyombo vya habari vimehusisha kauli yangu ya kutaka kupunguza umri wa kugombea urais na mimi ‘kuutaka urais’.

Mimi nikiwa mwanachama na kiongozi wa chama changu cha CHADEMA naelewa na kuziheshimu taratibu na kanuni tulizojiwekea za kuomba nafasi mbalimbali za uongozi, ikiwemo nafasi ya urais.

Nafasi ya uongozi ndani ya CHADEMA haiombwi kwenye warsha. Iwapo chama changu, wakati muafaka ukifika na kutokana na matakwa ya jamii, kikiona nipewe jukumu lolote sitasita kutekeleza wajibu huo niwe au nisiwe mgombea.

2. Kwa hivyo, nilichozungumza jana ni kutoa maoni yangu kwamba muda umefika kwa Taifa letu kupunguza umri wa kugombea urais.

Maoni yangu haya yanatokana na ukweli kwamba hakuna sababu zozote za kisayansi zinazomfanya mtu aliye chini ya umri wa miaka 40 akose sifa za kuwa Rais. Msimamo huu nimekuwa nao tangu zamani nikisoma shule na haujawahi kubadilika.

Hakuna mahala popote katika maoni yangu niliyotoa jana niliposema kwamba nataka umri wa urais upunguzwe ili nipate fursa ya kugombea nafasi ya urais.

Pia siwezi kutaka katiba iandikwe kwa ajili yangu. Vilevile kamwe isionekane kwamba matakwa ya muda mrefu ya vijana ya kutaka umri wa kugombea Urais kupunguzwa yanalenga kunipa fursa mimi kwani mimi ni binaadamu naweza nisiwe na sifa za kuwa Rais lakini kukawa na vijana wengine wengi wenye umri chini ya miaka 40 wenye Uwezo na Uzalendo wa kutosha kushika usukani wa nchi yetu.

Ni maoni yangu kwamba tupate mabadiliko ya vizazi katika uongozi wa nchi yetu ili kukabili changamoto za sasa zinazokabili Taifa letu.

3. Tunapojiandaa kutoa maoni kuhusu Katiba Mpya ni vizuri vyombo vya habari vikajikita kutoa taarifa bila kuweka tafsiri au kuwatafasiria maoni ambayo wananchi na viongozi watakuwa wanayatoa kuhusu maudhui ya Katiba Mpya.

Hofu Arsenal, Van Persie kaumia

Mshambuliaji tegemeo wa Arsenal, Robin Van Persie akitoka uwanjani jana baada ya kuumia wakati timu ya Taifa ya Uholanzi ilipokuwa ikifanya mazoezi kujiandaa kupambana na timu ya Taifa ya England leo kwenye uwanja wa Wembley.

Arsenal have been dealt a worrying injury scare after Robin van Persie failed to complete Holland's training session due to a groin problem.

The Gunners skipper walked off the Wembley pitch for the final 15 minutes of Tuesday's session ahead of the clash against England.

Van Persie was in visible discomfort before coming off, missing an eight-a-side training match.

Sportsmail was told last night that Van Persie made the decision to come off after feeling pain in his groin.

Van Persie went into last night's session carrying a 'very mild' groin problem from Sunday's win over Tottenham, though it was not deemed serious enough to keep him out of meeting up with the Dutch squad.

Arsenal sources insist Van Persie's decision to make an early withdrawal from training was purely precautionary.

But the news casts doubts on his participation in tonight's clash and the Gunners' clash against Liverpool on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger will be keen for his striker to sit out the friendly to ensure he does not risk aggravating the injury further.

But Dutch boss Bert van Marwijk is ready to anger the Gunners manager by opting to playing the striker.

'I am optimistic that he will play. We will have to wait and but I don't think it's too serious,' said Van Marwijk.

The Holland manager knows he will be risking Wenger's wrath by taking any sort of fitness risk with his talismanic striker.

Wenger is already an outspoken critic of the number of FIFA's international calendar, particularly with regards to the number of friendly matches.

The Gunners manager has already had a number of run-ins with the Dutch FA over their use of Van Persie.

Speaking in 2010, former Holland manager Dick Advocaat said: ‘He is always moaning about something.

Mrema- Makinda vumilia, wabunge msiwe na tamaa

MWENYEKITI wa Chama Cha Tanzania Labour Part (TLP ) Augustino Mrema amemtaka Spika wa Bunge, Anne Makinda kuwa na uvumilivu na kiwango cha mshahara wa wabunge wanachokipata.

Akizungumza na waandishi wa habari ofisi kwake jana, Mrema alisema wabunge wanatakiwa kuogopa kutawaliwa na tamaa ya fedha katika kuongoza wananchi.

Mrema alisema wabunge hawahitaji kuwa mamilionea katika kuwasaidia wananchi bali kuna miradi mbalimbali kama mfuko wa jimbo na kufungua miradi ya maana katioka kuinua uchumi wa wananchi.

“Ni kweli fedha tunazolipwa hazitoshi lakini tunatakiwa kuvumilia na kuendelea kuongoza maana hata ukipewa Sh10 milioni haziwezi kutosha iwapo Mbunge hatakuwa na matumizi ya mipango thabiti,” alisema.

Mrema alisema kinachoongelewa na Spika Makinda ni kweli lakini Mbunge anatakiwa kuweka bajeti katika kuendesha jimbo lake.

Alisema kama wabunge wanataka kuondoka kwa ajili ya kukosa posho na mishahara waende lakini kwa yeye hawezi kuondoka kutokana na kiwango hicho kumtosha sana.

“Nimekaa zaidi ya miaka 20 bila kupata chochote, niliweza kuwasaidia wananchi wangu licha ya kujiuzulu uwaziri wangu, sasa kwanini leo niachie hata hiki kidogo siwezi kukiachia ng’oo! Haachii ngazi mtu hapa,” alisema mrema.

Alisema hakuna mbunge ambaye ataweza kuachia ngazi kwa ajili ya mshahara kuwa mdogo kutokana na kwamba kazi ya ubunge sio fedha bali ni kujituma kwa wananchi.

Marema alisema Spika Makinda hatakiwi kulaumiwa kutokana na wabunge wachache waliongia bungeni kwa ajili ya kutafuta fedha humfuata na kumueleza matatizo yao.

“Spika makinda ni halalali kueleza kutokana yeye kuwa mama wa wabunge wote wa kupokea malalamiko na kuyafanyia kazi,” alisema.

Uteuzi wa mgombea Arumeru Wakatai huo huo chama cha TLP kimetangaza kusimamisha mgombea ubunge katika jimbo la Arumeru mashariki.

Mrema alisema chama kimempitisha Abraham Mhoza Chipaka kupeperusha Bendera ya TLP . Alisema kamati ya halmashauri ya wilaya ya chama hicho ilimpitisha Mgombea huyo kwa kuona nafaa kukiwakilisha chama.

“TLP tumejipanga kugombea Arumeru Mashariki tutaenda kugombea na sio kusindikiza kama wanavyofikilia”alisema na kuongeza:

“Tumemsimamisha Abrahamu Chipaka ambaye ni mjasiliamali amepitishwa na kamati ya Halmashauri ya Wilaya Taifa”alisema Mrema.

Mrema alisema anafurahishwa na migogoro inayoendelea ndani ya chama cha CUF na NCCR mageuzi kwa kile alichodai kuwa aliambiwa yeye ni dikteta na kufukuza viongozi katika chama alichokuwa akikiongoza.

“Uongozi ni mgumu wanatakiwa wajifunze kupitia vyama vingine wasibaki kushabikia na kuniona mimi ni dikteta kazi yangu ni kuwafukuza wanachama wenzangu,sasa kikowapi leo hii yamewageukia wao”alisema Mrema.

Alisema suala la watu kumnyemelea ili kumuondoa uenyekiti hakubaliani nao kwa kuwa huyo anayetaka kuchukua nafasi hiyo anasifa yeyote kuwa Mbunge.

Kikwete- Wazee wausahau urais 2015

Mwenyekiti wa CCM, Jakaya Kikwete akiwa na Naibu Katibu Mkuu wa Chadema, Kabwe Zitto

WAKATI makundi ya urais yakijipanga kuwania kiti hicho mwaka 2015, bila kuyajali, Rais Jakaya Kikwete amesema wanaota urais wakiwa na umri kama wake, wasahau, Tanzania Daima Jumatano limedokezwa.

Kikwete alitoa kauli hiyo wakati wa kikao cha Kamati Kuu ya Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM), kilichokutana juzi, pamoja na mambo mengine, kupitisha jina la mgombea ubunge katika jimbo la Arumeru Mashariki.

Habari kutoka ndani ya kikao hicho zilisema kuwa Rais Kikwete alitoa kauli hiyo wakati akifungua kikao hicho.

Kwa mujibu wa habari hizo, Rais Kikwete alisema kuwa kinachotokea Arumeru Mashariki ni makundi yanayotaka urais na kusisitiza kuwa kama kuna mtu mwenye umri kama wake na anataka urais mwaka 2015, asahau kupata kiti hicho.

Alisisitiza kuwa wanaotajwa kutaka urais wakiwa na umri kama wake na hata kuzidi, huu si wakati wao bali wa vijana.

Mtoa habari wetu kutoka ndani ya kikao hicho, alisema kauli hiyo ya Rais Kikwete iliwanyong’onyeza baadhi ya makada wanaotajwa kutaka nafasi hiyo wakiwa tayari na umri mkubwa.

Katika hatua nyingine, Mbunge wa Bombuli, Januari Makamba (CCM), amependekeza kuwa umri wa kugombea urais, ushushwe kutoka miaka 40 ya sasa hadi 35.

Ushauri huo uliungwa mkono pia na Mbunge wa Kigoma Kaskazini, Zitto Kabwe, ambaye alihoji kuwa kama Uganda wameweza kwa nini Tanzania mabadiliko hayo hayawezekani.

Makamba alitoa kauli hiyo jana katika kongamano la Femina HIP la vijana walio nje ya shule, lilioandaliwa na Jukwaa la Femina, huku likiwa limebeba mada kuu ya ushiriki wa vijana katika uundwaji wa Katiba mpya na kufanyika katika Ukumbi wa British Council, jijini Dar es Salaam.

Wabunge hao wawili pia walitaka umri wa mtu kuruhusiwa kupiga kura uwe miaka 16 badala ya 18 kama ilivyo sasa.
Akifafanua pendekezo hilo, Makamba alisema Tanzania inapaswa kuiga mfano wa nchi jirani kama Uganda, Burundi na Rwanda ambao tayari wanafuata mfumo huo.

Alisema asilimia kubwa ya wananchi wa taifa hili ni vijana hivyo haoni ni kwa nini hawapewi fursa kugombea nafasi hiyo kwa kisingizio cha umri.

Kuhusu kupiga kura, mbunge huyo alisema anaamini kwamba umri wa miaka 16 alionao kijana wa karne hii ana uwezo wa kuchambua mambo na kumchagua kiongozi anayeona anafaa.

Kwa upande wake Zitto alisema hata yeye anaunga mkono hoja hiyo na kudai kwamba linawezekana kabisa huku akitolea mfano kwamba kipindi cha nyuma wanawake walikuwa hawashiriki katika kupiga kura.

Kama vile haitoshi alisema miaka ya kupiga kura ilikuwa ni kuanzia 21 lakini kadri muda ulivyozidi kwenda na kuonekana kwamba kuna haja ya sheria hiyo kufanyiwa marekebisho, ndipo ikafika miaka 18 hivyo ni wakati sasa muafaka kwa vijana kudai haki hiyo ya kupiga kura wakiwa na miaka 16.

Hata hivyo Zitto aliwataka vijana katika mchakato huu wa Katiba kutokubali mjadala huo utawaliwe na wanasiasa kwa kuwa wengi wanajadili kwa maslahi yao.

Kwa mujibu wa Zitto tayari ameshaona wanasiasa hao wameanza kuutumia mjadala huo kwa manufaa yao huku wakilenga katika kugawana madaraka na kuacha kujadili mambo muhimu kama ajira kwa vijana na namna gani wataweza kulipwa kutokana na kazi wanazozifanya.

Pia mbunge huyo aliwaonya vijana wasije wakafikiri Katiba mpya ndiyo itakuwa suluhu ya matatizo yanayowakabili na badala yake kuwataka wafanye kazi kwa bidii.

“Msidhani kwamba eti Katiba mpya ikiwepo ndipo matatizo ya ajira yatakwisha au uibwaji wa rasilimali za nchi utaisha la hasha kwani matatizo haya yanaweza kuendelea kuwepo; kinachotakiwa ni kuchapa kazi na kujenga hoja pale mambo wanapoyaona yanaenda sivyo,” alisema.

Hata hivyo wabunge hao walipoulizwa swali na mmoja wa washiriki wa kongamano hilo, Humphrey Polepole, kama wangependa kuwa kwenye Bunge Maalum la Katiba, walisema ndiyo kwa madai kwamba wanaamini watakuwa na mchango mkubwa kuwepo kwao katika tume hiyo.

Kwa pamoja wabunge hao walisema kwamba wanataka kuonyesha siasa za tofauti katika kuondoa matatizo ya vijana na wananchi kwa jumla bila kujali vyama wanavyotoka.

Katika kongamano hilo la siku mbili ambapo mgeni rasmi alikuwa Meya wa Manispaa ya Ilala, Jerry Silaa, linalenga kupata maoni ya vijana wa Tanzania kuhusu Katiba mpya kwani takwimu zinaonyesha kwamba Tanzania ina watu milioni 44 na kati ya hao asilimia 65 ni watu walio chini ya umri wa miaka 25.

Afyeka nyeti zake kuwakomoa wanawake

KIJANA Priva Elian (29) anayeishi Useri wilayani Rombo mkoani Kilimanjaro, amefyeka sehemu zake za siri na kuziondoa, kwa kile kilichoelezwa kuwa ni kugombaniwa na wanawake wawili.

Wakizungumza na gazeti hili, baadhi ya mashuhuda wa tukio hilo, walidai kijana huyo anayefanya biashara kati ya miji ya Rombo na Nairobi nchini Kenya, alifikia uamuzi huo baada ya wanawake wawili kumgombea.

Walidai kuwa alifikia uamuzi huo Februari 27, mwaka huu saa 1:30 asubuhi baada ya kupandwa na ghadhabu kutokana na usumbufu mwingi aliokuwa akiupata kutoka kwa wanawake hao.

Walieleza kuwa mara baada ya kuchukua uamuzi huo, alimwita mdogo wake ambaye hakutambulika jina na kumweleza kuwa achukue viungo hivyo na kuwapelekea wanawake hao ili wavigombee.

“Hatujui alitumia kifaa gani kujifyeka kwani kinaonesha ni kikali sana, kwani baada ya kukata sehemu hizo nyeti, alimpa mdogo wake ili awapelekee wanawake hao kwani ndicho kitu muhimu kwao na siyo yeye,” alisema mmoja wa mashuhuda wa tukio hilo la kusikitisha.

Kutokana na kuvuja damu nyingi, majeruhi huyo alipelekwa katika Hospitali ya Wilaya ya Huruma iliyopo wilayani humo akiwa amepoteza fahamu na hawezi kuzungumza.

Mganga Mkuu wa Hosptali ya Huruma anapopatiwa matibabu majeruhi huyo hakupatikana kwa kuwa simu yake ilipokelewa na daktari mwingine ambaye alikiri kupokelewa kwa mgonjwa huyo.

“Nikweli tumempokea mgonjwa huyo jana na tulimwingiza katika chumba cha wagonjwa wanaohitaji uangalizi maalumu (ICU), kutokana na hali yake kuwa mbaya sana iliyosababishwa na kuvuja damu nyingi, lakini kwa sasa amehamishwa na yupo wodini,” alisema daktari huyo ambaye hakutaka kutaja jina lake.

An openly gay marine has caused a stir online after sharing the traditional home-coming first kiss with his boyfriend in Hawaii.

Sgt Brandon Morgan of Oakdale, California, was captured as he jumped into the arms of boyfriend, reported by International Business Times to be called Dalan Wells.

The pair embraced and locked lips as they were reunited following the end of Morgan's Afghanistan tour with the US Marines.

They join a longstanding tradition of military personnel vying to share the ‘first kiss’ with their partners on returning home from operational tour.

The picture went viral after being posted on the Gay Marines Facebook page and popular gay blogs Joe.My.God and Towleroad, receiving more than 18,000 ‘likes’ and almost 4,000 comments since Saturday.

‘Welcome home and thank you for your service!’ wrote one commenter. ‘This is an awesome picture! Love knows no gender, race, creed or sexual preference.’

‘Welcome home Marine!’ wrote another. ‘Thank you for your service! As a veteran of the U.S. Army it brings tears to my eyes to see you be able to express your love without fear. God bless you and your BF. May you have many more years together!’

During his deployment Morgan recorded a Christmas message dedicated to ‘all my friends and family’ but without mention of Wells.

Responding to Facebook comments he described Wells as 'the giant in the photo' and quipped 'can't believe how many shares and likes we have gotten on this'.

YouTube: Sgt. Brandon Morgan recorded a video wishing his friends and family a happy Christmas and New Year.

He added: ‘To everyone who has responded in a positive way. My partner and I want to say thank you.

‘We didn't do this to get famous, or something like that, we did this cause after 3 deployments and four years knowing each other, we finally told each other how we felt.’

The photo of Sgt Morgan and his partner comes five months after the military's ban on openly gay service expired.

Their ‘don't ask, don't tell’ policy that had banned openly gay men and women from serving in the US military ended last September.

The pair have followed in the footsteps of Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta of California and Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell of Los Angeles who in December became the first lesbian couple to share the traditional home coming first kiss.

They were seen embracing on the pier at Virginia Beach, Virginia after their ship docked following an 80-day deployment to the Caribbean.

Areas of Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham have become 'no-go' areas where the law is losing the battle against drug traffickers and organised crime, according to the United Nations' drugs chief.

The three cities were directly compared to the drug cartels which hold sway over large parts of Brazil and Mexico by Professor Hamid Ghodse, the president of the UN’s International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).

He said the cities were trapped in 'a vicious cycle of social exclusion and drugs problems and fractured communities'.

The development of 'no-go areas' is being fuelled by threats such as social inequality, migration and celebrities normalising drug abuse, he warned, adding that helping marginalised communities with drugs problems 'must be a priority'.

Eleven-year-old Rhys Jones was one victim of the drug and gang culture permeating Britain.

The youngster was shot in the car park of a pub, in Croxteth, Liverpool, in August 2007 after innocently being caught up in a turf war between rival gangs.

Rhys was killed as he walked through a pub car park on his way home from football training.

Sean Mercer, then aged 16, was aiming at members of a rival gang when he blasted Rhys by mistake.

Members of Mercer’s Croxteth Crew helped him cover up his horrific crime.

Rhys was shot with a First World War Smith and Wesson revolver, and a gang-member was caught trying to buy a replacement weapon just weeks later.

Mercer was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 22 years.

He said: 'We are looking at social cohesion, the social disintegration and illegal drugs.
'In many societies around the world, whether developed or developing, there are communities within the societies which develop which become no-go areas.
'Drug traffickers, organised crime, drug users, they take over. They will get the sort of governance of those areas.

'Examples are in Brazil, Mexico, in the United States, in the UK, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, and therefore it is no good to have only law enforcement, which always shows it does not succeed.'

Prof Ghodse called for such communities to be offered drug abuse prevention programmes, treatment and rehabilitation services, and the same levels of educational, employment and recreational opportunities as in the wider society.

He said: 'Youth of these communities must have similar chances to those in the wide society and have a right to be protected from drug abuse and drug dependence.

'It is crucial that the needs of communities experiencing social disintegration are urgently tackled before the tipping point is reached, beyond which effective action becomes impossible.

'The consequences of failure are too high for society and should be avoided at all cost.

Maduka haramu ya dawa yauza mihadarati kwa mtandao

Illegal internet pharmacies are targeting young people online through sites such as Facebook and YouTube, a United Nations drugs chief warned today.

Professor Hamid Ghodse, president of the UN’s International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), said illegal internet pharmacies were becoming 'very sophisticated' in approaching young people on social media sites, leaving them 'very vulnerable' online.

He warned young people to be aware of whom they were talking to and interacting with on the internet.

'Disturbingly, illegal internet pharmacies have started to use social media to publicise their websites, which can put large audiences at risk of dangerous products,' Prof Ghodse said.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has found more than half of medicines from internet pharmacies are counterfeit, he added.

'This has become really rather sinister now,' he said, 'it is much more widespread than you can believe it is.

'International illicit pharmacies are using social media and they are not just coming overtly as they used to do, advertising their selling of illicit drugs to you, they do it under a variety (of different ways).

'They use YouTube, they use Facebook, they attract you to their website ... Then when you go there you will see they are also selling illicit drugs.

'Particularly young people, they become very vulnerable in using internet pharmacies.'

Prof Ghodse went on: 'A few years ago it was direct, it was the internet selling all sorts of controlled drugs.

'But then, in a very sophisticated way, they are getting the right question on to YouTube, on to Facebook, and even chatting in the chatrooms, they get engaged, and then bombard them with drugs.'

The INCB annual report added that the illegal firms took steps to ensure they looked legitimate, 'providing quotes and images of purported medical doctors'.

But it added that the firms had turned to 'message board and social network advertising' after several internet search engines banned the use of registered trademarks for prescription drugs in their sponsored links.

More than half (58 per cent) of the 12,000 seizures of controlled substances sent via the mail in 2010 were from India, with others from the US, China and Poland, and 'some of course in the UK', Prof Ghodse added.

"I don't see that adversely impacting on our ability to attract players or retain the top players that we have."

"I don't. I have a lot of good memories and good friends still at the club but I'm sorry to say the problems are there for all to see and in my opinion there's a simple explanation for it.

"Every year they are losing great players like an Ashley Cole, Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas or a Samir Nasri. So every year they desperately try to replace these guys.

"But it is not easy to find another Thierry Henry or Cesc Fabregas as even Arsene Wenger has found out. So that's the problem.

"What's happened? Last year they won the FA Cup and qualified for the Champions League. Now this year they are in with a great chance of winning the Premier League.

"It is amazing — they have invested in players, in the team and it is working."

But the Togo international found himself sidelined at City and jumped at the chance to join Spurs on loan last summer.

He has made a brilliant impact banging in 10 goals and claiming 11 assists already this season. Adebayor said: "Tottenham, too, have invested in top players in recent years — Gareth Bale, Scott Parker, Rafael van der Vaart, Luka Modric.

"And we are doing very well and playing some amazing football.

"More importantly, though, we have managed to keep great players like Bale and Modric and then built on the existing team by buying players like Parker, Brad Friedel, Louis Saha and myself.

"Arsenal have unfortunately lost their best players and have needed to merely replace rather than kick on.

"But if they would just give themselves a chance to keep their best players, players like Robin van Persie and then strengthen, they would be a real threat again.

"We can all see that Van Persie is one of the best strikers in the league, in the world, and to lose him would be a massive blow.

"But to lose him, not to replace properly and to not build up the squad afterwards would be a disaster.

"That would be an Arsenal team without any capacity to even challenge for trophies, let alone win one. That would make me sad. I'm very proud that I played for Arsenal Football Club."

Adebayor's relationship with Gunners fans deteriorated after he ran the full length of the field to celebrate in front of them having scored for City in 2009.

He later apologised. But he added: "Yes, I know the fans will give me a lot of stick for leaving and for my behaviour against them at Man City.

"But the truth is I had a great time there and am still fond of the players and staff who I will be delighted to see there.

"I have matured a lot and I have no hard feelings against anyone at the club.

"Arsenal is part of my life, so it's strange because I think it must be the first time Tottenham have gone there so far ahead in the table.

"The gap is 10 points. That used to be the sort of gap Arsenal would have over Tottenham. It is amazing. Even if we lose — which obviously I hope we don't — we would still be seven points ahead of them.

"If we win, the lead becomes 13 points and that's incredible.

"So all the pressure is on Arsenal, there's no pressure on us at all. We can go for it without any fear.

"It puts us in a great position for the match. And a great position to keep the pressure on Manchester United and Manchester City above us. Our ambition this season was to make the Champions League and we are in a good situation to achieve that.

"Who knows how much further we can go? We will try and win every game and see what happens in May.

"After Arsenal, we have Manchester United at White Hart Lane, so that could be a key game. It is all very exciting.

"We must just keep trying to do the right thing. Keep focused on our football, keep playing our football and keep trying to win every game.

"Then at the end of the season we will see where that leaves us."

The summer will also determine where Adebayor's future lies — a return to Manchester City, a new club or his preferred option — turning his loan spell at Spurs into a permanent deal.

He added: "I would love to stay at Tottenham and help them become champions.

"And I really enjoy working with this manager. Harry Redknapp has done so much to give me my confidence back. He told me, 'Whether you score or you don't score, you are a great player.

You make goals, you work hard, you run for the team, you defend for the team. Your presence alone gives more space to others like Bale and Van der Vaart'.

"That's great to hear because when your manager makes those sort of compliments you do your very best for him.

"That's why I'm not surprised he is the main man now for the England job."
Adebayor also remains a committed fan of his former boss Wenger, despite the Gunners' current problems.

He said: "He is one of the best managers I have ever worked with and it's sad to see him going through a tough time.

"You could see in the match in Milan how frustrated he was, I have never seen him look like that before.

"He is under so much pressure to finish in the top four, yet the team looks totally out of confidence, so it's proving a very tough season.

"But I'm sure he knows how it is in football for a manager. When the team is doing well, it is all because of the players. When the team is doing badly, it is because of the manager. That will never change."

But the balance of power has shifted in North London and probably for the long-term.

Courageous war correspondent Marie Colvin, a Long Island native, was killed early yesterday when Syrian government loyalists intentionally shelled her makeshift press center in the blood-soaked city of Homs — apparently to silence her reporting on the slaughter of civilians.
She was 56.

The award-winning reporter for London’s Sunday Times died along with a French photographer after 11 shells made a direct hit on the building, burying both.

Two other foreign reporters were wounded and are still trapped in Homs, witnesses said.

The regime of Syrian despot Bashar al-Assad was able to pinpoint the press center by locking in on reporters’ cellphones.

Direct orders, intercepted by Lebanese intelligence, to destroy the building were issued by the Syrian army, according to Britain’s Telegraph newspaper.

Eight hours before her death, Colvin gave her last interview — from the press center where she was killed — telling CNN’s Anderson Cooper that this assignment was the “worst” in her two decades-plus as a war reporter.

“There’s nowhere to run,” she said. “You can sort of figure out where a sniper is. But you can’t
figure out where a shell is going to land.”

Tragically, Colvin left Homs over the weekend but returned Monday because she heard the army was planning a major offensive and wanted to get one last eyewitness account.

“I think reports of my survival may be exaggerated,” she wrote on Tuesday in response to an erroneous report that she had safely escaped the city.

Colvin had planned to leave Homs on Tuesday, but decided to stay until yesterday.

“That’s really bad because it was just one day,” her mother, Rosemarie Colvin, said tearfully in the living room of her East Norwich, LI, home.

“She was murdered. I’m very proud of her. But I’m going to miss her.

“I’m hoping to have her back. I want to bring her home one last time,” she said about whether she will receive her daughter’s body.

Marie Colvin exchanged e-mails with a friend, Katrina Heron, in which Colvin said she suspected that she would be targeted. “I do have the feeling that in the last hours of her life, she knew,” Heron told The Post.

Born and raised on Long Island, Marie Colvin graduated from Oyster Bay HS in 1974, then Yale, and began a fearless career covering war for The Sunday Times.

She went on patrol with the Kosovo Liberation Army in the Balkan war, covered East Timor rebels, and came under fire from Russian jets in Chechnya.

Last August, when she and other reporters were outside the Tripoli mansion of Moammar Khadafy’s son Muatassim during the dictator’s final days, she clambered up the outer wall — while her much younger colleagues held back until they were embarrassed into following her. Later, she got one of the last interviews with Moammar Khadafy.

While covering the Tamil rebels in Sri Lanka in 2001, she was badly wounded by a government grenade.

“She nearly died,” her mother recalled, and for the rest of her life carried “shrapnel in her brain
and in her chest.”

But the only outward sign was the black patch that she wore over her lost left eye.

Her mother said Yale classmate and Kennedy heir Robert Sargent “Bobby” Shriver, helped get her out of Sri Lanka. “They actually sent the Marines in from the embassy,” she said.

Shriver told The Post how moved he was by Colvin’s final interview, in which she described seeing a wounded 2-year-old baby die in a makeshift medical center in Homs.

“We just watched the little boy, his little tummy heaving and heaving as he tried to breathe. It was horrific,” she told CNN’s Cooper early yesterday morning.

“She gave her life to show that image,” Shriver said.

Rupert Murdoch, chairman of News Corp., which owns The Sunday Times and the New York Post, called Colvin “one of the most outstanding foreign correspondents of her generation.”

“She put her life in danger on many occasions because she was driven by a determination that the misdeeds of tyrants and the suffering of the victims did not go unreported,” he said.

Colvin knew the risks she was taking.

She is the first British journalist to be killed during the onslaught unleashed by president Bashar Assad to suppress a pro-democracy movement.

Hours earlier she told the BBC of the "unrelenting" attack and "absolutely sickening" scenes including one where she watched a two-year-old child die after being hit in the stomach by shrapnel.

Colvin had worked in war zones from Kosovo to Chechnya and lost an eye in a 2001 mortar blast in Sri Lanka.

French photographer Remi Ochlik, 28, also died in today's attack in the Baba Amr district. At least one other Western journalist was reportedly wounded in the rocket and artillery attack on a house that had been turned into a media centre.

Sunday Times colleague Jon Swain said: "Marie was extremely brave and her mission in life was to travel to difficult places and expose the human tragedy of war."

Pro-opposition areas of Homs have been under a sustained bombardment from government forces since February 3 leaving several hundred people dead. Activists say more than 40 died yesterday.

Amnesty International put the death toll at almost 400 this month alone. Colvin, in her fifties,
yesterday told the BBC: "There are 28,000 people in Baba Amr. The Syrians will not let them out and are shelling all the civilian areas.

"There is Free Syrian Army here. They're very, very lightly armed. People are terrified they will leave. There is just shell, rocket and tank fire pouring into civilian areas of this city."
Activist Omar Shakar said three as yet unnamed foreign journalists were also injured in the attack.

Witnesses reported shells falling as fast as 10 per minute as Assad's forces stepped up their pressure on the city which has become a symbol of resistance after withstanding months of attacks despite locals being armed only with light weapons.

Tributes flooded in for the fearless journalist who twice won the British Press Award for Best Foreign Correspondent for her work covering wars in Bosnia, Iran, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

Middle East correspondent for The Independent Robert Fisk said: "Marie was a dauntless lady of tremendous courage."

A spokeswoman for the Duchess of Cornwall, who met Colvin at a service commemorating British journalists killed in conflicts, said: "She is very, very sad to learn of the death of Marie Colvin."

Rana Kabbani, the Syrian writer and daughter of former Syrian ambassador to the United States, tweeted:

"Marie Colvin covered real humanitarian horror all over the world, but said Homs was the worst she had EVER seen. RIP, heroine.

"(She) was a striking, sassy and serious journalist. She never suffered fools like Assad gladly.

He has left her body in bloody pieces."In November 2010, Colvin made an emotional speech at journalists' church St Bride's in Fleet Street during a service to commemorate the 49 journalists killed this century.

She said: "Covering a war means going to places torn by chaos, destruction, and death ...and trying to bear witness. It means trying to find the truth in a sandstorm of propaganda when armies, tribes or terrorists clash. And yes, it means taking risks, not just for yourself but often for the people who work closely with you.Colvin said the scene of war had remained "remarkably the same for hundreds of years".

She added: "Craters. Burned houses. Mutilated bodies. Women weeping for children and husbands. Men for their wives, mothers children. Our mission is to report these horrors of war with accuracy and without prejudice.

"We always have to ask ourselves whether the level of risk is worth the story. What is bravery, and what is bravado?"

A packed commuter train entering a station at morning rush hour Wednesday suddenly smashed into a retaining wall, crumpling cars and leaving at least 49 dead, 550 injured and dozens trapped in the twisted wreckage.

Survivors described a full train – there reportedly were as many as 800 aboard – and a tremendous impact, with passengers thrown on top of each other and hurled to the floor.

"Unfortunately, we must report that there are 49 dead in the accident," including a child, police spokesman Nestor Rodriguez told a news conference, according to AFP.

Civil defense officials said at least 550 people were injured in the crash.

AFP said witnesses reported it appeared the train's brakes failed as it pulled into the "Once" station on the western outskirts of Buenos Aires.

Transportation Secretary Juan Pablo Schiavi said the train entered the station at a speed of 12 miles (20 km) per hour and failed to stop, crashing into a retaining wall at the end of the track.

"It was a very serious accident," he said at a news conference. "Cars piled up on top of each other and one of them went six meters (yards) inside another car."

"People suffered contusions, but there are much more complex cases involving traumas of the thorax. There are people trapped alive in the cars."

At least 30 people were trapped in the twisted wreckage of the first and second cars of the train, Alberto Crescenti, the head of the city's emergency services office, said, according to AFP.

Firefighters and rescue workers had to break through skylights in the train's roofs to get inside.

"I felt the explosion of the crash. It was very loud. The train did not brake, I saw people hurt in their necks, arms, legs," AFP quoted passenger Pedro Fuentes as saying.

Wednesday's wreck came just months after eight people were killed when their school bus collided with a train in central Argentina.

Another collision between a train and a bus in Buenos Aires last September killed 11 people and wounded another 212.

The National Enquirer is under fire for posting a photo of Whitney Houston in an open casket at her funeral on the cover of this week's issue, along with the words "Whitney: The Last Photo! Inside Her Private Viewing."

In addition to many users on Twitter and Facebook lashing out at the tabloid for the cover, some websites have taken issue with the choice.

Perez Hilton has called the move "exploitation." A writer for the site proclaims, "We find it rather tasteless and crude. We just want to wish poor Whitney peace and her family all the time they need to grieve."

While we won't show the image here, the National Enquirer has run a photo of Whitney Houston in her casket on its cover.

Meanwhile the site Gossip Cop is equally unimpressed, writing, "The National Enquirer frequently sets the bar very, very low.

But the tabloid really crossed the line this week when it decided to publish a cover story featuring a photo of Whitney Houston in an open casket at the Whigham Funeral Home in New Jersey before her burial last weekend."

The website Daily Caller similarly opined, "Running an image of Whitney Houston’s lifeless body on the cover is pretty par for the course for The National Enquirer, but it’s still a bit much."

The Enquirer has not revealed how, or from whom, it received the photos.

It is not the first time the magazine has splashed a controversial photo of a deceased celebrity on its cover.

Last week, the tabloid's cover line read, "Whitney's Final Minutes." Underneath, a woman resembling Houston was laid out on the floor, face down, in a hotel bathroom in what was described as a "photo re-creation" of Houston's death scene.

In 1977, the National Enquirer infamously ran a photo of Elvis Presley on view in his casket. There years later, it did the same following John Lennon's assassination.
