ARI was a 20-year-old student struggling to help her single mother pay the bills.
She had her heart set on a dance degree at Texas State University,
but knew she could not afford the thousands of dollars in tuition fees.
"My
parents had split, and my mum was having trouble with child support
with my siblings and stuff, so I was working, like, five jobs to help," Ari told KENS5
.
Then she heard about SeekingArrangement.com, a
sugar daddy dating website specialising in "mutually beneficial
arrangements between wealthy benefactors and attractive people".
Ari signed up to be a "sugar baby", with a few caveats.
"I'm a virgin. We're not doing it. We're not doing anything sexual," she said.
A man 15 years older than her approached her wanting to be her sugar daddy.
"Every
time he would fly in, we would hang out, and he would just give me
money," Ari said.
"He was like, 'Oh, it's just gas money,' and it would
be, like, two and three hundred bucks here and there.
And I'd be like,
'Oh, cool.' And then each time he'd come, he'd give me more money, and
we'd go do anything I wanted to do."
With the money she enrolled in a full time degree at Austin Community College.
"As long as you're not compromising your morals, and you're OK with what you do, I think it's a good idea," Ari said.
A
SeekingArrangement.com spokesperson said the arrangements are not
considered prostitution because sexual contact is not mandatory.
Almost 11 million college students in the US are registered on the website.
