Forty-nine-year-old Kudirat Busari, on Tuesday, pleaded with an Alagbado Customary Court to dissolve her 29-year-old marriage to her "jealous husband".

Kudirat, a food seller, said she was sure to get a beating each time her husband, Saliu Busari, saw her with another man.

She, however, recalled that her last beating by her husband was over a piece of meat that her sales girl had denied him.

Kudirat said the beating left her "severely injured".

"He came to my shop when I was not in and ordered my sales girl to give him meat, but the girl refused.
This made my husband to beat me severely that night when he came home. I am tired of beatings,’’ she said.

In her appeal to the court for a divorce, Kudirat said she was no longer in love with her husband, whom she married in 1983.

She also alleged that Busari had not been meeting his financial obligation to the family.

Busari was also in support of a divorce, but denied his wife's claims that he had been irresponsible.

The Court President, M. Jolaoso, adjourned the case to September 10, 2012 for further hearing.
