WAYNE Rooney celebrates the thatch of the day after heading the goal that fired England into the Euro 2012 quarter-finals last night.
Roo — who had a £30,000 hair transplant last year — pretended to spray his new
weave after scoring in the 1-0 win over Ukraine that set up a clash with
Italy.
He joked later: “I used a bit of Andy Carroll’s product. Hopefully I’ll end up
with hair like him.”
Rooney’s admission he used pony-tailed ace Carroll’s gel brought some ribbing
from ITV footie pundits covering last night’s game.
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher joked: “Any lad born in Liverpool, in
Croxteth, should not be wearing any product.”
Ukraine see Wayne Rooney score last night
Rooney — returning from a two-match ban — nodded in a Steven Gerrard cross in
the 48th minute to set up the Italy game on Sunday.
He said: “It’ll be a difficult match of course. But we have to be confident
and hopefully we can go far.”
Captain Gerrard said: “If Wayne keeps scoring those tap-ins for us, he’ll take
us a long way.”
Rooney celebrates match winner
ENGLAND hero Wayne Rooney got a huge cheer from his two-year-old son Kai last
night after scoring the goal that knocked the stuffing out of Ukraine.
Wife Coleen tweeted while watching the 1-0 win at home with the excited
youngster: “There’s lots of screaming in our house!!!! Yayyyyyy
Dadddddyyyy!!!!!”

Roo, who had missed a good chance in the first half of the vital Euro 2012
clash, struck the decisive goal minutes after the break in Donetsk’s
50,000-seat Donbass Arena — heading in from close range.
As he wheeled away in celebration, he waggled his index finger above his head
to mime spraying hair products on to the £30,000 transplant he underwent
last year.
After the match Rooney said: “We’re delighted with the win and to score was
great.
“I haven’t scored in a major tournament for a while. The whole team were
fantastic.”
The 26-year-old Man Utd forward’s solitary strike as he returned to action
after a two-game suspension was enough to clinch victory for new boss Roy
Hodgson’s men and to leave them top of Group D.

That earned them a quarter-final tie against Italy in Kiev. And it meant they
avoided world champions Spain, who now face France — surprisingly beaten 2-0
by Sweden last night.
Crucially, it also left England with an extra recovery day since their next
match will not now be played until Sunday.
Coleen and Kai flew back to the UK from Poland on Monday after spending
Father’s Day enjoying the sights of Krakow with Wayne.
The 26-year-old and other WAGS jetted out to be with the squad a week ago as
the players were given time to spend with their families.

The Three Lions’ triumph followed last week’s dramatic 3-2 comeback win over
Sweden and a battling draw with France in the teams’ opening group match.
Hodgson, with just two games in charge before the start of the tournament,
stressed afterwards that his team remained a work in progress.
He said: “This is a fledgling team as far as I’m concerned.
“But we’re working at our game and showing composure on the ball and in
attacking areas is always the most difficult part.
Ashley Cole salutes Wayne’s headed goal
“That’s where you need your Wayne Rooneys. This game will be good for him. He
played well, worked hard and could have had several other goals. On the
counter we were dangerous enough but we could have been more dangerous.”
England fans were outnumbered ten to one by the home support, but still made
themselves heard from the small corner of the stadium decked out with
patriotic red and white St George’s cross flags.
Afterwards Three Lions followers voiced their delight at the win.
Football coach Ryan Willsmer, who travelled to the match from Billericay,
Essex, with pal Christian Lipman, 23, now plans to stay on.
Ryan, 24, said: “Not a lot of people would have expected us to have come this
far. Now we’re looking forward to the quarter-finals.”
Duncan Reid, 38, an events organiser of Clapham, South West London, said:
“There is a new optimism about England now.”
Shakhtar Donetsk’s Hitler-loving Za Boys were reported to have warned:
“Ukraine will become a graveyard to English fans.”
But there were no reports of serious incidents in the tough mining city before
the game and Ukrainians welcomed their English rivals.
