DAVID hailed new boy Juan Mata as the saviour of Manchester United’s season.
Mata will go
straight in for his debut against Cardiff at Old Trafford tonight with
Moyes insisting the arrival of the club’s £37.1m record signing will
give United the impetus to clinch qualification for the Champions League
which he admits is “imperative”.
Rovin Van
Persie is also back after two months out with a thigh injury as United
bid to start a winning run to avoid the embarrassment of failing to
qualify for European football’s elite club competition for the first
time in nearly two decades.
United are seventh and manager Moyes said: “Undoubtedly, this club wants to be at the top. We want to be challenging.
“At this moment in time we have failed to do that. And we want to do something about it.
“The message this signing sends out is that Manchester United are going for all the best players in the world.
Mata, who has been handed the number eight shirt, admits he feels 'honoured' to join Manchester United and said that is was the only viable option for him.
"Coming here, it was a great honour to play for a massive club," Mata said.
"The last six months were difficult at Chelsea. I'm looking forward to winning as many trophies with the club.
"Everything about the history of the club and the players in the squad convinced me to join. To come here, the welcome I got from the players and the reception I received from the fans has been unbelievable. I just want to play, I'm looking forward to helping the team and restoring their confidence."
Mata received widespread interest before sealing his move to Old Trafford, but he conceded United were the only club for him.
He continued: "The fans were unbelievable at Chelsea. I respect that. The squad is unbelievable- they have one of the best squads in the Premier League. However, when United came it was a great option for me.
"I just wanted to go to Manchester United. I feel really happy. It is a massive club. It is a big challenge to be here. It is amazing for my career and a big step in my career."
