Ndoa 47 kwa mpigo

As any blushing bride would undoubtedly agree, it's nice to be surrounded by friends and family on the big day.

But for these happy girls, there was safety in numbers as they got hitched in a mass wedding in India.

The 47 Muslim brides all wore peach saris with a covering veil as they waited for the ceremony in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad to begin.

They sat next to each other excitingly chatting as religious leaders put their thumbprints on the marriage certificate and signed it while the grooms watched nearby.

The act signified the bride's agreement to the wedding in front of a relative - a ritual known as the 'Nikah Kabool Hai' or 'Do You Agree for the Marriage' section.

The grooms were all dressed in traditional outfit, but one of the men couldn't resist making a quick mobile call for last-minute advice.

Mass weddings in India are quite common - giving poor people a good ceremony or held on an auspicious date of the year.
